Introduction:
Video games are becoming increasingly common in the lives of children and adolescents. The prevalence of video games brings up questions regarding the effects they have on the cognitive and social development of children who play them. The issues associated with video games are both positive and negative and, like any form of media, need to be addressed on a wide spread as well as an individual basis.
- Currently, the majority of video games are produced for a target audience that consists of people who play for fun.
- The ability of every current generation game console and computer to connect to the Internet brings about security issue in regards to children.
- While many people associate video games with raising aggression in children, every aspect of video games and the effect they have on cognitive development should be examined.
The future of video games is vast. As examined in previous sections, the potential for games for educational use is a barely tapped market. The integration of different aspects of gaming into daily life can greatly change how people interact with the world around them.
